Jubilee Party Deputy Leader Jeremiah Kioni has taken a swipe at leaders he accuses of treating the opposition as personal property, warning that no individual or region has a monopoly over Kenya’s political direction.

In a strongly worded statement, Kioni invoked the late Prof. George Saitoti’s famous words that “there comes a time when the nation is more important than an individual,” arguing that the opposition must put national interests above personal ambitions and competing egos.

Kioni criticised what he described as political bullying, condescension and attempts to dictate how other leaders should participate in opposition politics.

He insisted that every Kenyan has the right to choose a political party, express political views and campaign without intimidation.

“Respect is earned, not demanded,” Kioni said, urging opposition leaders to embrace humility, persuasion and inclusivity rather than treating fellow politicians like subordinates.

He warned that the opposition risks losing its national purpose if it degenerates into competing personal fiefdoms.

Kioni’s remarks come amid growing tensions over leadership, political influence and the direction of the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
