Former Nyeri Town MP has declared he is ready to become Jubilee National Chairperson as pressure mounts for the party to resolve its leadership wrangles constitutionally.

Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Kioni has backed calls for a National Delegates Convention (NDC) to resolve the party’s leadership questions, reinforcing former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu’s demand for strict adherence to the party constitution.

Wambugu, who has declared his readiness to become the party’s next National Chairperson, has repeatedly urged Jubilee to follow the law in appointing its officials amid legal challenges surrounding leadership changes, including those involving Secretary-General Moitalel Ole Kenta.

Kioni said the election of national party officials must take place at the NDC, arguing that some members had misunderstood the constitutional provisions governing the process.

He called for another convention to address the party’s leadership and nomination processes.

“I feel betrayed. Many people feel betrayed since the time of changing the office of the SG,” Kioni said, referring to the changes that have unsettled sections of the party.

The emerging agreement on the need for an NDC puts renewed focus on Jubilee’s internal electoral processes as it reorganises ahead of the 2027 General Election.

For Wambugu, the chairperson’s contest now unfolds against a broader debate over constitutional compliance, party democracy and who should determine Jubilee’s next leadership.
